Corno Updates!
August 10, 2009

As Corno just got back to New York after a month in Negril, Jamaica working on a new project, we thought we'd give you a recap of this busy season! Come see us soon!

Montreal International Jazz Festival Press Conference and Unveiling June 8

The summer season began with a big bang. At the beginning of June, the MIJF unveiled the painting they had commissioned from Corno to celebrate their 30th Anniversary. Over 500 journalists from around the world attended the event at the famous Metropolis.

Corno at the Montreal International Jazz Festival Press Conference and Unveiling, June 8.

The spectacular creation titled Face for Jazz surpassed all expectations and will forever be imprinted in the memories of jazz and Corno fans alike. It measured a towering 60” x 72”. After the unveiling, Alain Simard announced the inauguration of the Festival Gallery in the Rio Tinto Alcan building where Corno’s painting will permanently reside as of this Fall.

During the weeks that followed, it seemed as if a microphone was glued to Corno’s hand. The media had a feeding frenzy and she graciously complied! Television and radio hosts vied for an appearance. Newspaper columnists jumped on the bandwagon with interviews and articles that just wouldn’t let up. Among the more notable were Je l’ai vu à la radio hosted by Franco Nuovo, and Libre comme l’air with Dominique Poirier. Nathalie Petrowski wrote a full page article in the Saturday La Presse.

June 10 – VIP AKA Gallery Opening

With so much of the spotlight on Corno, it was not surprising that the AKA Gallery Summer Opening was a landmark in itself.

In all, we had 350 attendees. We wish to warmly thank all of our supporters for their unconditional enthusiasm for Corno and her art. As you can guess, her recent paintings on display were all inspired by jazz and are full of its energy and improvisational brio.

The Opening was crowned with the presence of CBC television, who spent 5 hours parked at our door with their huge antenna. Just before the Opening, Michel Désautel from CBC interviewed Corno in the gallery and in fact, the entire cultural segment was filmed here on June 10.

The well-known Dr. Réjean Thomas, a prominent Corno collector, and the gallery publicist Alain des Ruisseaux attended the event.

A few well-loved celebrities stood out in the crowd including the always charming Dominique Michel and Marie-Josée Ménard, both serious Corno collectors.

Always with a big smile, Corno and Alain Simard met up with each other during the AKA Gallery Opening.

Opening of the Festival Gallery

The Opening of the Festival Gallery was the perfect place to present the new limited edition serigraph titled Face for Jazz. According to an article in the daily 24 Heures, Alain Simard said: “This year, we have had record sales in the gallery.”

Annie Reynaud, the Director of the Festival Gallery and Kat Coric who handles development at AKA Gallery congratulated each other for their great team effort!

Corno Sings It Loud for the Montreal International Jazz Festival
June 8, 2009

With unprecedented success in international markets in 2008 and major recent exhibitions in Singapore and Dubai, Corno is taking Montreal by storm this summer as she is honoured by the Montreal International Jazz Festival who named her Guest Artist and commissioned an original painting.

2009 is a milestone for both the Montreal International Jazz Festival and Corno who are celebrating their respective 30 year mark. The painting titled Face for Jazz was unveiled by Alain Simard, the President of the Montreal International Jazz Festival, earlier today at a Press Conference held at the Metropolis.

The painting will be on display at the new Galerie du Festival which will be inaugurated this summer in the new headquarters of the Montreal International Jazz Festival. A limited edition deluxe serigraph will be released at the official opening of the Festival later this month.

"We are particularly proud to have Corno, whose fame precedes her, as the Guest Artist of the Galerie du Festival this year. This remarkable Montreal painter, who is now recognized internationally, was the perfect artist to create especially for the 30th Anniversary of the Montreal International Jazz Festival an original painting from which a limited edition art serigraph will be printed. The sale of the serigraph will help finance the free activities of the festival."
- Alain Simard, Founding President of the Montreal International Jazz Festival.

About Face for Jazz:

Corno’s signature traits are instantly recognizable in this stunning, original painting. Face for Jazz is unapologetic and fierce, it commands our attention as it takes up most of the canvas. The Corno palette is alive and electrical. Abstracted gestured brush strokes meet smooth planes of skin tone. Face for Jazz represents Corno at her strongest and most daring. Who else but Corno can bring to life a six foot tall face in tribute of Montreal’s beloved musical giant?

The original commissioned painting is a mixed media on canvas that measures 5' x 6'.

Face for Jazz: Original 2009 serigraph. Limited edition of 150 signed, numbered and titled by the artist. With the blindstamp of the printer Atelier Bellemare and that of the Montreal International Jazz Festival.

The limited edition serigraph is available for purchase at the Festival Gallery and at AKA Gallery.

She pictured herself painting by the gallon in a loft in New York City
By Vivianne Lapointe • Dec 20th, 2008 • Category: CELEBS

In the two weeks that followed Art Baselista, I found myself spending countless hours intellectualizing the artists’s nature vs. the image, and debating the new meanings of pop in contemporary art and the laws of commerce. Close to a full year passed since my idyllic trip with Corno to Hong Kong, and the world has changed a lot.

This past Tuesday, Opera Gallery New York put together a successful opening to show a new selection of Corno’s work, all from 2008. In the midst of a recession, her stocks have been showing a stable, high growth in all markets.

David Chines co-hosted a joyful evening of shmoozing and boozing and a bunch of gorgeous people showed up to preview the artist’s newest Faces, plus two new female Nudes. The party, held in Corno’s immaculate loft-apartment on West Broadway, was sponsored by Glitterati Magazine and Inocente Ultra Premium Tequila and featured on Guest of a Guest.

For the full photo gallery of the event held at Opera Gallery on December 16, click here.

The audacious explorations in light and color and the life breathing out of the characters portrayed in Corno’s new paintings caught me silent once again. How can paintings be so different from one period to another, if the chick’s working in the studio with the same theme: the human body & what’s in its heart?

What makes the difference with her is an untouchable, rock-solid devotion to her vision. She always pictured herself painting by the gallon in a loft in New York City. Dubbed a new expressionist and superlative colorist, she was extremely successful, very early on in her career in Canada. Always ahead of her time, Corno set up her studio on Bond Street, twenty years before Ian Schrager bought the block.

Women who choose to be artists go through their share of joys and struggles, especially when they find inspiration in the busy streets of Manhattan. Corno is the person who taught me the dichotomy between emotions and creativity and for that, among many other things, I will one day buy a painting of hers.

See for yourself at Opera Gallery, 115 Spring Street. The show is ungoing and is a perfect thing to do if you are walking around Soho with friends and family - if only the snow would melt - lol!

For an amazing online gallery of Corno’s work, check out her Montreal representation, AKA Gallery and don’t fail to subscribe to the mailing list.

OPERA GALLERY CORNO & MOZ
May 26 Opening

Pursuing her ever-accelerating international success, Corno flew to Paris for the Opening of her joint exhibit with artist Moz.

The evening began with an elegant sit-down dinner and was followed by a champagne reception in keeping with the high standards Opera Gallery sets itself.

Since many couldn't attend, here's the next best thing to being there!

Congrats Corno! One more feather in your cap!

Below from left to right :
Corinne de Conti, Moz, Corno.

FASHION TV
Where fashion meets art

With Corno's signature glamour queens splashed all over the walls, and Moz's fashion conscious subjects all but posing for the camera, it was not surprising that Fashion TV in Paris took a special interest in the show and sent a crew to cover the event and interview the artists on camera.

In addition to her recognizable artistic style, opulent colors, lush textures, sweeping gestural movement, Corno looked as hot as ever in the designer label outfit she doned for the evening.

For French viewers not so accustomed to seeing Corno ontelevision, she projected the strong, self-confident image of a woman with passion and vision who is living every artist's dream.

LATE SPRING EVENT
May 22 Opening

Although we knew Corno would not be able to attend because of the Paris opening, AKA Gallery went ahead with its Spring event which had been delayed due to the horrible cold weather that kept us indoors longer than we had wished for.

In spite of her absence, the opening was a hit and we are pleased to say we had some very special guests including über collector François Odermatt, Bank of Montreal chairman Jacques Ménard, who both recentlyacquired works of the artist ; reputed collector AndréBachand and his well-known wife, historian Claudette Hould happily emerging from her ten-year book project which is a must read for art history buffs. Robert Bolduc of Matol Botanicals was also among attendess.

On behalf of Corno, we thank all of our guests as well as her numerous supporters, fans and well-wishers!

N.B. AKA GALLERY WILL BE CLOSED FROM JULY 14 TO JULY 29 INCLUSIVELY.

HONG-KONG’S A-LIST COMES TOGETHER TO CELEBRATE CORNO’S ONE-WOMAN SHOW AT OPERA GALLERY

Friday, January 18, 2008
Opera Gallery Hong-Kong celebrated the opening of Corno’s latest one-woman show on January 10, 2008.
Collectors, socialites, curators, gallery owners, long-time admirers, hip scenesters and even a few friends sipped champagne while perusing the colourful collection Corno had created for the occasion.
It was notable that many of the sixteen works created by the artist were diptychs and triptychs – as large as eighteen feet in length – which leaves one wondering where they can find the place to hang them in Hong-Kong.

Notable attendees included Marie-Claire’s Editor Polo Donald Cobain ; The Landmark Mandarin’s Anthony Costa ; EMI’s Joleigh Lo ; Christie’s Nadine Edelstein and her beau German D. Chullmir ; Arch Angel Galleries’ Koos Groot and his daughter Brittany ; and Lan Kwai Fong’s Director of Entertainment Marisa Zeman.

The show sold out in a heartbeat and Corno, who took time out from the studio to come all the way across the world to attend the event, had a chance to meet and greet many of the guests. High on her success, she spent a week visiting the sights, decompressing and getting ready for the next push.

The good news and the bad news

This Summer, Corno was the Guest of Honor of Fido who were unveiling the FIDO SPOT where works of art by budding artists will be projected on the largest permanent exterior digital video projector in Ontario.

A special thank you to Sébastien Bouchard of Fido who helped coordinate logistics and to Joanne Thompson who introduced Corno on the stage and, of course, hosted the party at Thompson Landry. It was a huge success.

ICFF

In mid May, Corno was a featured artist at the 19th Annual ICFF, International Contemporary Furniture Fair, in New York City. Her works were displayed in the prestigious and ultra-modern Bizhan Home booth.

Showcasing contemporary design, the Fair drew the most intrepid trend seekers to an extraordinary presentation of cutting-edge designs and thought-provoking exhibits. Corno’s architectural sized murals, which are ideal for corporate headquarters, building entrances, and boardrooms added sparkle to the mix.

The Fair bustled with interior designers, architects, manufacturers, and developers seeking the globe's finest, most creative, and original avant-garde creations showcased in one venue.

ART OF THE NUDE

Spring saw the release of the documentary The Art of the Nude directed by the award-winning Bernar Hébert. The film featured a short interview with Corno – the exceptional hour-long interview having been lost in the edit…

THE BUZZ

Try as we may, we never seem to be able to publish our Newsletter as often as we would like to, simply because there is so much happening at the studio that it’s difficult to keep up.

HONG KONG SHOW

For a start, Corno had a spectacular show at Opera Gallery in Hong Kong that opened in July. As usual, all of her paintings sold in record time. Here is a glimpse of the art.

THOMPSON LANDRY GALLERY

At the same time as collectors in Asia were gobbling up her art, collectors in Toronto were feasting their eyes at Thompson Landry Gallery in the trendy Distillery District who’ve had one celebration after another.

First, there was St-Jean Baptiste in June, then there was Canada Day in July, then the Toronto International Film Festival in September and, coming soon, yet another event in December featuring Corno’s art. The spacious gallery provides an enviable setting for Corno’s murals which positively shine here.

CBC RADIO CANADA LE POINT

On September 08, 2006, Corno was interviewed on the most listened to news program in French Canada, CBC’s Le Point, anchored by the well-respected Bernard Derome.

Since Corno lives and works within 15 minutes walking distance from Ground Zero, Céline Galipeau asked her questions about the whole 9/11 experience for someone who was right in the middle of it.

CHÂTELAINE MAGAZINE

Along the same lines, Châtelaine Magazine also did their issue on 9/11- 5 Years After and caught up with Corno with similar questions.

The psychological shock is more apparent in this interview as well as the reminder that the art world was devastated in New York city for 2 years following these tragic events.

But as Corno reminds us, we must all continue no matter what fears and wounds we may have, and we must not let terrorism rule and ruin our lives.

.................................................................................................................................................................
LE MATCH DES ÉTOILES

On a much lighter note, in keeping with the wave of dance competition television shows led by Dancing with the Stars, CBC Radio-Canada Television developed its own home-grown formula.

Hosted by popular television personality Normand Braithwaite, Le Match des étoiles began airing in the Fall of 2006 and showcases stars and celebrities.

Corno was invited to be the featured artist. Huge theatrical backdrops of some of her works depicting the energetic movement of dancers add drama to one of the dance studios seen on the show.

LEFT COAST GALLERIES

Major Fall exhibitions included an ongoing one-woman show at the spacious and luxurious Left Coast Galleries in Studio City, California.

Corno’s works looked breathtaking and, not surprisingly, the largest and most expensive painting was the first to sell. What an auspicious beginning!

AKA Gallery is located at 2142 Crescent Street -- a very posh address -- and promises to be a delightful place to visit with its owner’s infectious enthusiasm and effusive charm.

THE BUZZ

Busy, busy, busy! That’s certainly one way to sum up studio activities over recent months! Here are some of the highlights.

The painting on the right titled Red Face on White is a current work that was recently acquired by a prominent museum in Mexico. It’s a first south of the border. You can imagine this will encourage Corno to keep pushing the envelope!

LONDON EVENT

Corno was the featured artist at the Premiere of ALEGRIA, a spectacular show created by the world-famous Cirque du Soleil at the prestigious Royal Albert Hall in London. The idea was instigated by Daniel Lamarre, President and COO of the Cirque; it was curated by Martin Bundock, in charge of Art Integration.

Her works, including Face with Yellow # 35 on the left, were hung in the VIP room as well as at the swank Roof Gardens where more celebrations took place.

Concurrently with the Premiere, Corno’s works were featured at Opera Gallery on Bond Street in London. (In case you didn’t know, Her Royal Majesty Queen Elizabeth shops down the street at Harrod’s!)

Because of the very special nature of this double event, Corno took time out from painting and attended the Premiere as well as a private reception organized by Opera Gallery in honor of the Cirque du Soleil to thank officials for including Corno in such a superlative event.

DOCUMENTARY FILM

A documentary titled The Art of the Nude produced by Ciné Qua Non Films International produced and directed by Emmy award-winning film-maker Bernar Hébert captured some amazing footage of Corno painting with a model in her studio. On the right, we see her working on the drawing she created from start to finish in front of the camera.

In addition to the live action aspect, Corno gave an in-depth interview that revealed some of the depth of the woman behind the brush. She addresses questions many collectors have asked over the years.

The documentary is scheduled for television release this fall and will be aired on Bravo!, ART-TV, France 5 and Radio-Canada Television. Be sure to try and catch it!

RADIO INTERVIEW:
JE L’AI VU À LA RADIO
( I SAW IT ON THE RADIO)

Corno was recently interviewed on Je l’ai vu à la radio, a weekly cultural radio program in French led by a team of three hosts Louise Forestier, Jacques Bertrand and Franco Nuovo pictured on the right.

Corno was among a select group of Quebec artists living and working full time in New York City who were interviewed to tell their success stories: what brought them to the Big Apple and what keeps them here.

Prior to the interview, the entire crew visited Corno’s studio for a sneak preview of some current works.

The live radio show was recorded at the Living with Art Gallery where the audience mingled with the hosts and guests during the breaks. The radio program was followed by a reception hosted by Quebec Delagate Michel Robitaille who was also a guest. His personal chef spoiled us with his tasty hors d’oeuvres.

Since moving to New York in 1992, Corno has rarely shown her work in Montreal where she had been well-established before her departure. So It was quite a celebration for the hundreds who attended her Opening on November 23, 2005.

The works were presented in a festive atmosphere provided by the musical compilation of Café Méliès, Volume IV produced by Yann Errera of Jajou Productions.

The new series of paintings reflect the evolution of Corno’s style over the years as well as its constants: high energy, bold brushwork, brilliant colors and striking portraiture.

The media were abuzz with the news that the prodigal daughter’s dreams of success in New York had come true.

Corno was seen and heard on one television and radio program after another, in addition to the newspaper and internet coverage that made her brief visit hectic but heartwarming.

The show was completely sold out and plans for a bigger event sometime in the fall of 2006 are in the works.

Corno returned to New York to finalize a double event: her art will be presented in the VIP room at the January 5, 2006 Premiere of the Cirque du SoleilTM at the Royal Albert Hall in London as well as at Opera Gallery also in London. That’s the price of success!

PARIS

Anyone who has ever been to Paris has probably fallen in love with a city that defines beauty and elegance, good food and fine living.

Corno got to enjoy all of the above on her recent visit. She could be found in some of the most famous locations you can name, but only after spending some time at Opera Gallery on the ultra-chic Faubourg Saint Honoré, near the Louvre, where she was honored with a champagne reception.

The show at Opera Gallery aptly titled Kaleidoscope featured works by Andy Warhol, Antoni Tapies, Alexander Calder and other well-known artists. As you can see, her paintings were bright and bold, just as we have come to expect from her.

In addition, there was a cocktail reception honoring a very special friend of Corno’s, the internationally recognized Dr. Réjean Thomas (left) who is well-known in the battle against HIV-AIDS and renowned for his exemplary determination and commitment to promoting the respect and compassion all victims of ostracism deserve.

Dr. Thomas is the founding President of Médecins du Monde Canada, a humanitarian non-governmental organization that is part of twelve independent organizations that make up Médecins du Monde International.

Médecins du Monde is recognized for its work on international health issues and played a paramount role at the February 2003 AIDS committee meeting in Paris by taking the initiative of an inter-organization intervention in Zimbabwe. Médecins du Monde has had successful missions to Haiti, Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, and Southeast Asia after the tsunami devastation.

UPDATE

Between her hectic travel schedule, Corno has been busy painting frantically and fulfilling commissions of portraits and murals for private collectors, some of which you may get to see on these pages when it’s time to play Show and Tell.

NEW PRINT

A limited edition print of a male nude is currently in production. Bold and sexy! We hope you’ll enjoy it and take advantage of an affordable Corno. Otherwise, the original is available at Ars Vivesco Gallery shown above.

FUNDRAISERS
On May 16th in Montreal

Winston McQuade, a well-known media personality in Québec, auctioned off 54 paintings, works on paper and sculptures by Corno and other well-known artists participating in the annual Benefit Auction for the Éco-musée du fier monde. Corno has supported many fundraisers, including the 14th Annual Edition of the Black and Blue Festival, an AIDS fundraiser which took place last fall. Her paintings helped raise thousands of dollars for these causes.

SPLASH LIGHT STUDIO, NY

On May 6th

Sweet Spot and Splash Light Studio presented Casablanca welcoming to NYC award-nominee Jay-J and diva Latrice Barnett. Guests included Vasili and Matthieu Lagarde, with a performance by François Ayrault and AntiGravity. The art exhibit featured a half-dozen of Corno's paintings. It was a very high profile party with lots of beautiful people. Christophe Garnier organized the event with his usual impeccable style.

ARS VIVESCO, QUEBEC CITY

Ars Vivesco, one of the most beautiful galleries in Quebec City, will be officially representing Corno there. Director Marc Brochier visited Corno's studio recently and they have agreed to work together. There’s a lot of excitement in the air. Corno is delighted to maintain an active presence in Quebec City, and Ars Vivesco are happy to be able to snatch the exclusivity of Corno. The team is all revved up and dying to get started! Expect to see her paintings there towards the end of June.

UPCOMING EVENTS

Upcoming openings include Paris, London, and Hong Kong. Corno will be attending the shows in both Paris and London in June.

ORIGINAL MULTIPLES

A limited number of Face on Blue, a limited edition serigraph on 24”x30” Arches paper by Corno, are now available as original multiples. Corno has painting on top of the existing image making each one unique.

GREETINGS FROM CORNO!

The renewal of Spring has brought us some fresh ideas including this first ever newsletter from Corno Studio which will be our way of saying hello and keeping in touch with all of her devoted friends, collectors, and admirers. As part of this select group, you will be informed about developments, events, shows, special offerings, and new releases from Corno Studio.

HUGE INSTALLATION

In February, Corno created a spectacular 45' installation as the featured artist at The Train in New York City, a fashion event regrouping the brightest prêt-à-porter designers from Paris, New York and around the world. Among the attendees at the champagne reception in honor of Corno was Chelsea Clinton pictured here with the artist. They both added sizzle and sparkle to the event, and caught the attention of WWD.
IN THE SPOTLIGHT

The April issue of StarInc. has a great section on New York City focussing on cool places to see and people to know. Corno was featured. That was super cool!

As most of you know, Corno is currently represented by Opera Gallery. Her art is selling as fast as she can produce it in New York, Paris, Miami, Hong Kong and Singapore. She'll be attending a Reception for the artist at Opera Gallery Paris in May. If you can make it, please join the celebration. It's the first time she'll be attending her opening in Paris, but it may not be the last! Soon after that, she'll be on her way to a reception in her honor in Hong Kong where her paintings are literally flying out the door! So join her there if you can keep up with her!

We may be at the beginning of a wave of murals from Corno. Miami is clamoring for diptychs and triptychs. They loved her work at The Train but those fabulous paintings are already in Paris and Hong Kong. Several private collectors seem also to be in the mood for super size. Way to go! Incidentally, we are currently negotiating with several galleries around the world who are interested in her work. Something to follow closely.

NEW RELEASES!

Corno Studio has just published two new prints you can acquire directly from the studio.

One is titled Face on Orange and measures 32"x40". The other is Face on White and measures 30”x50”. They come mounted on masonite. You can also have them framed with glass or plexi. The edition size is 50, signed and numbered. You’ll be amazed at how good they look.
